Abstract

นวนิยายแนวสืบสวนสอบสวนตามขนบมักนำเสนออาชญากรรมที่เกิดขึ้นในสังคมควบคู่ไปกับการนำเสนอภาพลักษณ์ของตัวละครนักสืบชายผู้ชาญฉลาดและตัวละครอาชญากรชายผู้ร้ายกาจ ในขณะที่ตัวละครหญิงมักได้รับบทบาทเหยื่อผู้อ่อนแอซึ่งเป็นเสมือนการขับเน้นให้เห็นถึงอำนาจของตัวละครชายมากยิ่งขึ้น อย่างไรก็ตามแนวคิดเรื่องความแตกต่างทางเพศที่นำไปสู่การกดทับผู้หญิงไว้ภายใต้อำนาจของผู้ชายนั้นได้เปลี่ยนแปลงไปและถูกนำเสนอให้เห็นได้อย่างชัดเจนผ่านนวนิยายสืบสวนสอบสวนร่วมสมัย จากการศึกษานวนิยายสืบสวนสอบสวนร่วมสมัยของอเมริกาเรื่อง เดอะ เซอร์เจียน (The Surgeon, 2001) ของเทสส์ เกอร์ริตเซ่น (Tess Gerritsen) อโลน (Alone, 2005) และ ไฮด์ (Hide, 2007) ของลิซ่า การ์ดเนอร์ (Lisa Gardner) ฮาร์ทซิก (Heartsick, 2007) ของเชลซี เคน (Chelsea Cain) สเตรนเจอร์ส อิน เดธ (Strangers In Death, 2008) ของเจ ดี ร็อบบ์ (J.D.Robb) ชาร์ป ออปเจ็คส์ (Sharp Objects, 2006) และดาร์ก เพลสเซส (Dark Places, 2009) ของจิลเลียน ฟลินน์ (Gillian Flynn) ผู้วิจัยพบว่าตัวละครหญิงต้องเผชิญกับความรุนแรงอันเนื่องมาจากการกดขี่ทางเพศสภาพในสังคมปิตาธิปไตยที่กีดกันและแบ่งแยกให้ผู้ชายมีสถานะเหนือกว่าผู้หญิง อาทิ การกระทำความรุนแรงทางเพศที่ไม่เพียงแต่เป็นความรุนแรงทางกายแต่ยังสร้างบาดแผลไว้ในจิตใจของตัวละครหญิง และการกีดกันทางเพศในพื้นที่การทำงานที่เกิดขึ้นกับตัวละครนักสืบหญิง อย่างไรก็ตามผู้ประพันธ์ได้นำเสนอให้เห็นถึงการเปลี่ยนแปลงของตัวละครหญิงเพื่อต่อรองกับแนวคิดดังกล่าว อาทิ ตัวละครเหยื่อผู้หญิงที่ตระหนักรู้คุณค่าในตนเองและพร้อมจะลุกขึ้นต่อกรกับอาชญากรเพื่อปกป้องตนเอง อาชญากรหญิงผู้กระทำความรุนแรงเพื่อเติมเต็มความปรารถนาในจิตใจ และนักสืบหญิงที่พิสูจน์ความสามารถของตนเองจนประสบความสำเร็จในการทำงาน บทบาทที่หลากหลายและซับซ้อนเหล่านี้สื่อให้เห็นอย่างชัดเจนว่านวนิยายสืบสวนสอบสวนร่วมสมัยของอเมริกาไม่ได้ถูกจำกัดให้เป็นพื้นที่ของตัวละครชายเพียงอย่างเดียวอีกต่อไป ตัวละครหญิงก็สามารถก้าวขึ้นมาเป็นตัวละครสำคัญหรือแม้แต่ตัวละครเอกของเรื่องได้

Other Abstract (Other language abstract of ETD)

Conventional detective fiction often presents the crimes that have been committed as well as the genius male characters, both in the form of detectives and criminals. Female characters are often relegated to the role of victims, which serves to further enhance the prowess of the male characters. However, the concept of gender differences, upon which the oppression of women is based, is starting to change, and contemporary detective fiction is one of the places where we can clearly see this change. This thesis shows that Tess Gerritsen’s The Surgeon (2001), Lisa Gardner’s Alone (2005) and Hide (2007), Chelsea Cain’s Heartsick (2007), J.D. Robb’s Strangers In Death (2008), Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects (2006) and Dark Places (2009) present violence against women which is the result of patriarchal oppression. This violence includes sexual assault, a form of physical violence that also leads to psychological trauma, and sexual discrimination against female detectives in the workplace. However, the writers of these works try to negotiate with this patriarchal oppression by presenting new types of female characters. These characters include female victims who rebuild self-esteem and are ready to fight against criminals to protect themselves, female criminals who commit violent crimes to fulfill their own desires and female detectives who are able to achieve professional success in the workplace. The various and complex roles that these female characters play obviously show that contemporary American detective fiction is no longer dominated by male characters. They show that female characters can also assume prominent or even leading roles.
