Abstract

ด้วยวัดเป็นองค์ประกอบสำคัญของเมืองเก่าเชียงใหม่ จึงมีผู้วิจัยค้นคว้าเกี่ยวกับวัดมากมาย ส่วนใหญ่จะอ้างอิงวัดที่มีอยู่ในปัจจุบันบ้าง หรือวัดที่ปรากฏในเอกสารประวัติศาสตร์บ้าง จึงมีวัตถุประสงค์ศึกษาวัดภายในเขตกำแพงเมืองชั้นในและชั้นนอก (กำแพงดิน) ที่ปรากฏในแผนที่ประวัติศาสตร์ เพื่อนำไปเปรียบเทียบกับข้อมูลที่ได้จากการสำรวจภาคสนาม สรุปเป็นฐานข้อมูลที่ถูกต้อง รวมทั้งทราบการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เกิดขึ้น ในจำนวนแผนที่ประวัติศาสตร์เมืองเชียงใหม่ที่สำรวจพบจำนวน 9 ฉบับ พบว่ามีแผนที่ที่ระบุที่ตั้งและชื่อวัดชัดเจน เพียง 5 ฉบับ ได้แก่ แผนที่เมืองนครเชียงใหม่ พ.ศ. 2436 พบวัด 88 แห่ง ส่วนแผนที่เขตต์เทศบาลนครเชียงใหม่ พ.ศ. 2499 แผนที่บริเวณอำเภอเมืองเชียงใหม่ พ.ศ. 2503 แผนที่ Changwat Chiang Mai พ.ศ. 2506 และ พ.ศ. 2521 พบวัด 71, 63, 58 และ 53 แห่ง ตามลำดับ ทั้งนี้นอกจากจำนวนวัดที่ลดลงแล้ว ยังพบว่าชื่อวัดและสถานภาพของวัดในแต่ละแผนที่แตกต่างกัน พิจารณาวัดบนตำแหน่งเดิมในแผนที่ประวัติศาสตร์ทุกฉบับ พบวัดทั้งสิ้น 98 แห่ง แบ่งเป็นวัดที่ปรากฏในทุกแผนที่ 52 แห่ง และวัดที่ปรากฏในบางแผนที่ 46 แห่ง ทั้งนี้สถานภาพวัดในแต่ละแผนที่แตกต่างกัน คือ ปรากฏเป็นวัด 73 แห่ง วัดร้าง 21 แห่ง ส่วนวัดอีก 4 แห่ง บางแผนที่ระบุเป็นวัด บางแผนที่ระบุเป็นวัดร้าง ในขณะที่การสำรวจภาคสนาม พบวัดทั้งหมด 77 แห่ง แบ่งเป็นวัด 58 แห่ง เป็นวัดเดิม 55 แห่ง และวัดที่บูรณะขึ้นใหม่ 3 แห่ง ส่วนวัดร้าง 19 แห่ง ตรงกับวัดในแผนที่ 18 แห่ง อีกทั้งยังพบเพิ่มอีก 1 แห่ง ทั้งนี้มีวัดจำนวน 22 แห่ง ที่เปลี่ยนแปลงไปเป็น โรงเรียน 7 แห่ง บ้านพักอาศัย 6 แห่ง สถานราชการ 4 แห่ง ผนวกรวมกับวัดอื่น 2 แห่ง และกลายเป็นถนน สวนสาธารณะ และสมาคม อีกอย่างละ 1 แห่ง การศึกษาครั้งนี้นอกจากจะระบุตำแหน่งและที่ตั้งของวัดในเขตเมืองเก่าได้ถูกต้องชัดเจนแล้ว ยังพบการใช้สอยอื่นที่เกิดขึ้นในบริเวณวัดและวัดร้างในปัจจุบันทั้ง 33 แห่ง ได้แก่ โรงเรียน 11 แห่ง บ้านพักอาศัย 13 แห่ง สถานราชการ 1 แห่ง ร้านค้า 10 แห่ง และพิพิธภัณฑ์ 2 แห่ง

Other Abstract (Other language abstract of ETD)

Temples are a key element of Chiang Mai, a number of studies have been conducted about temples in this city. Most of these studies refer to currently existing temples or those found in historical documents. This study aims to explore temples within the inner and outer city wall (an extensive earthen rampart) that appear on historical maps and field surveys. This will enable the summarization of an accurate and up-to-date database of temples in Chiang Mai. Nine historical maps of Chiang Mai have been documented, but only five of these indicate the location and names of the temples. These are as follows: the City of Chiang Mai map (2436 BE, 88 temples), the Chiang Mai municipal map (2499 BE, 71 temples), the Chiang Mai district map (2503 BE, 63 temples), the Changwat Chiang Mai map (2506 BE, 58 temples) and the Changwat Chiang Mai map (2521 BE, 53 temples). The names and locations of temples varied from map to map. Out of a total number of 98 temples, 52 temples appeared on all maps, and 42 temples appeared on some maps. In addition, the temple statuses were as follows: 73 active temples, 21 abandoned temples, and 4 temples with ambiguous status. The field survey revealed 77 temples. 58 of these can currently be found in the city, including 55 existing in original condition, and three that have been renovated.. Out of the remaining 19 abandoned temples, 18 appear on the maps, and 1 temple does not appear on any map. In addition, 22 temples have been replaced by the following structures: seven schools, six houses, four government offices, two combined with nearby temples, one road, one public park and one association office. This study has also indicated the location of each temple in Chiang Mai's Old City. 33 temples, abandoned and otherwise, have also been adapted to other uses, including eleven schools, thirteen houses, ten shops, two museums, and one government office.
