Abstract

วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความแปลกแยกของคนผิวดำในสังคมอเมริกันร่วมสมัยที่ปรากฏในนวนิยายของโทนี มอร์ริสันทั้ง 6 เรื่อง และเพื่อศึกษาวิเคราะห์ศิลปะการประพันธ์ของผู้แต่ง จากการศึกษาพบว่านวนิยายของโทนี มอร์ริสันทั้ง 6 เรื่องนี้ได้สะท้อนถึงความแปลกแยกของคนผิวดำในสังคมอเมริกันร่วมสมัยโดยมีสาเหตุมาจากการแบ่งแยกซนชั้น การแบ่งแยกเชื้อชาติและการแบ่งแยกเพศ ความรู้สึกแปลกแยกนี้มิได้เกิดชื้นระหว่างคนผิวดำกับคนผิวขาวเท่านั้นหากแต่ใต้รวมไปถึงความแปลกแยกระหว่างคนผิวดำกับคนผิวดำด้วย ความแปลกแยกมี 4 ลักษณะ คือ ความแปลกแยกจากตนเอง ความแปลกแยกจากผู้อื่น ความแปลกแยกจากงานและ ความแปลกแยกจากสังคม ความแปลกแยกที่คนผิวดำกำลังเผชิญนี้ทำให้พวกเขาถูกกีดกันออก จากสังคมเสมือนดั่งเป็น “คนนอก" นอกจากนี้ในงานเขียนของโทนี มอร์ริสันยังพบจุดมุ่งหมายที่สำคัญอีกประการหนึ่งที่ผู้เขียนต้องการนำเสนอคือ เรื่องของ “ตัวตน" ความแปลกแยกของตัว ละครผิวดำไม่ว่าจะเกิดจากสาเหตุใดก็ตามล้วนมีผลในการทำลายตัวตน โทนี มอร์ริสันต้องการให้คนผิวดำทุกคนรู้จักตัวตนของตนเอง และดำรงไว้ซึ่งตัวตนของตน และความแปลกแยกของคนผิวดำนี้เองที่ได้ส่งผลกระทบตามมาในท้ายที่สุด ก่อให้เกิดปัญหาวิกฤตทั้งทางด้านสังคมและปัจเจกบุคคล นอกจากนี้ผู้วิจัยยังพบว่าศิลปะการประพันธ์ของโทนี มอร์ริสันมีลักษณะเฉพาะตนในอันที่จะมีส่วนช่วยนำเสนอภาวะความแปลกแยกนี้

Other Abstract (Other language abstract of ETD)

This thesis has two aims. Its primary purpose is to study the alienation of black people in contemporary American society as depicted in Toni Morrison' s six novels. The secondary purpose is to study the author’s writing style. The study shows that these six novels reflect the alienation of black people in contemporary American society due to class, race and gender. This alienation is not only between whites and blacks, but also blacks and blacks. Moreover, there are four kinds of alienation discussed in these works that is self alienation, alienation from others, alienation from work and alienation from society. Blacks are discriminated against as if they are ‘outsiders'. In addition, ‘identity’ is another major point found in Toni Morrison’s work. Blacks’ alienation, no matter from what cause, always tends to destroy their own identities, that in actual fact, Toni Morrison wants black people know and keep their own identities, and finally alienation creates crises that are social and individual problems.
