Abstract

Background: Body dysmorphic syndrome is the psychiatric disorder that can be dissatisfied with the cosmetic surgery outcome and disapproval.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to study the reliability and validate the Thai version COPS questionnaire.

Materials and methods: Fifty six Thai women attending the gynecologic outpatient clinic at King Chulalongkorn Memorial hospital were recruited between July 2017 to June 2018 in this study. Four participants dropped out because they did not answer the second questionnaire. The original English-version of COPS was translated into Thai version and backward translated by another linguist. Then the content of questionnaire was validated by the two urogynecologists. After the informed consent were done, the patients were asked to complete the Thai version of COPS questionnaire at first visit and at 2-week interval were completed and sent back by mail.

Results: The mean + SD of age was 34.13 + 6.38 years. The correlation of each item (Q) score with total score of Thai version COPS questionnaire ranged from 0.17 to 0.74. The internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha) was 0.91. The weighted Kappa of each score ranged from 0.62 to 0.95. The mean + SD of the total scores of the 1st and 2nd assessments (points) were 22.85 + 8.66 and 23.88 + 8.02. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) (95% CI) of the total score was 0.94 (0.89-0.96).

Conclusion: The Thai version of COPS questionnaire was found to be reliable and valid. It can be used for screening for BDD in Thai women before cosmetic surgery.
