Abstract

Background : Nurse are a healthcare professionals who are responsible for medical clinics and public health. Therefore, the quality of life of registered nurses is vital to perceive on satisfaction towards their life and works. Objective : To study the quality of life and related factors of registered nurses in private international hospital. Design : A cross – sectional descriptive study. Setting : Private International Hospital. Materials and Methods : The research data collected from 281 samples of full-time registered nurses who worked from April 2010 – October 2010, not include the samples who’s under took leave exceed than 3 months. The research methods included data collection using questionnaire consist of 4 parts, such as: demographic questionnaires, working questionnaires, relationship within family questionnaires, and quality of life questionnaires. The data were statistically analyzed by t-test, one – way ANOVA, and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis Results : The study showed that the majority of nurses respondent were female (97.2%) with average age of 29.65 ± 5.39 years. Most of them were single (97%), hold of Bachelor’s Degree (90%) and 1-5 years of nurses experience. The results revealed that the quality of life of the samples was of high level at 32.7%, moderate level at 66.9%, and low level at 0.4%. The multiple linear regression analysis for the total quality of life was found that 7 factors could predict the quality of life at 33.6%, as follows : satisfaction towards the work, satisfaction of the colleague, satisfaction of the work, ensuring to the work, hobbies, exercise, responsibility for family, and warmth of the family. Conclusion : The majority of nurse (66.9%) had quality of life at moderate level. The prevalence of the quality of life in this study was similar to the other studies. Findings related factors in this study should be concerned and considered to appropriately plan for enhancing quality of life for the registered nurses.
