Abstract

วัตถุประสงค์ของการวิจัยนี้เพื่อตรวจสอบอิทธิพลของความดึงดูดใจทางกายภาพและเพศต่อการรับรู้ความสามารถและการอนุมานสาเหตุของความสำเร็จ ผู้ร่วมการทดลองเป็นนิสิตระดับปริญญาตรี จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 240 คน และให้ดูรูปภาพบุคคล 12 ภาพแบ่งเป็นเพศชาย 6 ภาพและเพศหญิง 6 ภาพ ซึ่งมีระดับความดึงดูดใจทางกายภาพที่แตกต่างกัน 3 ระดับ (ดึงดูดใจสูง ดึงดูดใจปานกลาง และดึงดูดใจต่ำ) จากนั้นให้ผู้ร่วมการทดลองประเมินความสามารถและอนุมานสาเหตุของความสำเร็จของบุคคลในภาพ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1. ผู้ที่มีความดึงดูดใจทางกายภาพสูงกว่าถูกประเมินความสามารถมากกว่าผู้ที่มีความดึงดูดใจทางกายภาพต่ำกว่า (p<.01) 2. เพศชายถูกประเมินว่ามีความสามารถไม่แตกต่างกับเพศหญิงอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ 3. ผู้ที่มีความดึงดูดใจทางกายภาพสูงและปานกลางได้รับการอนุมานสาเหตุของความสำเร็จไปที่ความสามารถมากกว่าผู้ที่มีความดึงดูดใจทางกายภาพต่ำอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (p<.001) ขณะที่มีความดึงดูดใจทางกายภาพสูงได้รับการอนุมานสาเหตุของความสำเร็จไปที่ความสามารถไม่แตกต่างกับผู้ที่มีความดึงดูดใจทางกายภาพปานกลางอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ 4. เพศชายได้รับการอนุมานสาเหตุของความสำเร็จไปที่ความสามารถไม่แตกต่างกับเพศหญิงอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ

Other Abstract (Other language abstract of ETD)

The purposes of this research were to examine the influence of physical attractiveness and gender on the perceptions of competence and attribution of success. Participants were 240 undergraduate students. They were shown 12 photographs of 6 men and 6 women varying in 3 levels of attractiveness (unattractive, moderately attractive, and attractive) and then were asked to rate the persons in the photographs on their competence and attribution of success. Results show that : 1. More attractive persons are perceived as having higher level of competence than less attractive persons (p < .01). 2. Men are not rated as having higher level of competence than women. 3. Attractive and moderately attractive persons are perceived as achieving because of ability more than unattractive persons (p < .001) while there is no significant difference between attractive and moderately attractive persons. 4. Men are not perceived as achieving because of ability more than women.
