Abstract

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อทำความเข้าใจว่า ชนชั้นนำ นักวิชาการและผู้คนในสังคมไทยวาดภาพและนำเสนองานเขียนเรื่อง เจ้าผู้ปกครอง ของมาคิอาเวลลีอย่างไร อีกทั้งประเมินความความคงเส้นคงวาของการตีความนับตั้งแต่งานเขียนชิ้นแรกที่มีความเกี่ยวข้องกับมาคิอาเวลลีจนถึงปัจจุบัน ยิ่งไปกว่านั้น วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ยังต้องการนำเสนอกระบวนการเปลี่ยนแปลงความคิดของมาคิอาเวลลีให้เข้ากับสังคมไทย รวมถึงทำความเข้าใจว่ากระบวนการดังกล่าวส่งผลต่อการเพิ่มความนิยมของงานเขียนเรื่อง เจ้าผู้ปกครอง ของมาคิอาเวลลีอย่างไร โดยทฤษฎีและแนวคิดที่ใช้ในการทำวิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้คือ วิธีการศึกษาแบบประวัติความคิดทางการเมือง และ การอ่านตัวบทอย่างละเอียด ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ถึงแม้จะมีอุปสรรคระหว่างจารีตของไทยและตะวันตก แต่แนวคิดของมาคิอาเวลลีก็สามารถประสบความสำเร็จในการเผยแพร่ในประเทศไทย ยิ่งไปกว่านั้นแนวคิดของมาคิอาเวลลียังถือเป็นหนึ่งในแนวคิดทางการเมืองตะวันตกที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดที่ได้รับการเผยแพร่ในประเทศไทย และยังคงถูกประยุกต์ใช้จนถึงปัจจุบัน จากผลการศึกษาพบว่าเราสามารถแบ่งพัฒนาการของการสร้างความนิยม เจ้าผู้ปกครอง ของมาคีอาเวลลีในบริบทการเมืองไทยออกเป็น 3 ช่วง 1)ยุคที่แนวคิดของมาคิอาเวลลีปรากฏตัวเป็นครั้งแรกในสังคม ในช่วงเวลาที่ประเทศไทยกำลังเข้าสู่ความเป็นสมัยใหม่ โดยแนวคิดของมาคิอาเวลลีได้รับการประยุกต์ใช้อยู่ในกลุ่มชนชั้นนำของไทย 2)การศึกษามาคิอาเวลลีในโลกวิชาการ และการปรากฏของตัวบท เจ้าผู้ปกครอง ฉบับแปล 3) การเติบโตของแนวคิดของมาคิอาเวลลีในประชาชนทั่วไป โดยมีเครื่องมือสำคัญคือ หนังสือพิมพ์ ละครเวที นวนิยาย และการ์ตูน ที่ช่วยยกระดับการสร้างความนิยม นิยม เจ้าผู้ปกครอง ของมาคีอาเวลลี ในสังคมไทยมากขึ้นไปอีก

Other Abstract (Other language abstract of ETD)

This dissertation aims to understand how elites, scholars and people in Thai society depicts and represents Machiavelli’s The Prince in relation to their contexts and interpretations form the first version to the present. Moreover, this study addresses the localization of Machiavelli’s thought in Thai society and understands how it engages with the promotion of Machiavelli’s The Prince popularity. Many theories and concepts are used as Framework for this dissertation including History of Political Thought method and textual analysis. The result shows that despite the barrier between Thai and western tradition, Machiavellian concept reached the shores of Thai society. Moreover, Machiavelli’s thought is one of the earliest sets of western political thoughts that has been disseminated and applied in Thai society up until now. The study shows that the popularization of Machiavelli’s The Prince in Thai political context can be divided into 3 periods: 1) The period which Machiavelli’s thoughts was firstly introduced in Thailand during Siam modernization in king Rama V. It was politically made to reality by groups of Thai elite. 2) The study of Machiavelli in Thai academics and the first appearing in translated version 3) The growth of Machiavelli’s thought with the mass; Newspaper, stage play, novel and cartoon, has increased level of popularity of Machiavelli’s The Prince in Thai society.
