Abstract

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มุ่งศึกษาถึงอุดมการณ์ที่ถูกสถาปนาขึ้นในรัฐสยามในช่วงรัชกาลที่ 5-6 ซึ่งถือเป็นช่วงเปลี่ยนผ่านสู่การเป็นรัฐสมัยในใหม่ของสยาม โดยศึกษาถึงบทบาทของสมเด็จพระมหาสมณเจ้า กรมพระยาวชิรญาณวโรรสในการที่พระองค์ทรงมีส่วนร่วมสถาปนาอุดมการณ์รัฐสยามสมัยใหม่ขึ้น ในช่วงเปลี่ยนผ่านสู่การเป็นรัฐสมัยใหม่ของสยาม นอกจากพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวและสมเด็จฯ กรมพระยาดำรงราชานุภาพ ที่มีบทบาทในการร่วมสถาปนาอุดมการณ์รัฐสยามแบบสมบูรณาญาสิทธิราชย์แล้ว สมเด็จพระมหาสมณเจ้า กรมพระยาวชิรญาณวโรรสยังทรงเป็นชนชั้นนำของสยามในช่วงเวลาดังกล่าวอีกพระองค์หนึ่งที่ทรงมีบทบาทสำคัญในการร่วมสร้างอุดมการณ์แห่งรัฐ ดังปรากฏในงานพระนิพนธ์และบทบาทของพระองค์ซึ่งทรงดำรงฐานะเป็นประมุขของคณะสงฆ์ของสยาม ลักษณะดังกล่าวส่งผลต่อความคิดที่เป็นอุดมการณ์แห่งรัฐที่ทรงมีส่วนร่วมสร้างขึ้นมาซึ่งได้รับอิทธิพลมาจากความรู้ทางพุทธศาสนา จากปัจจัยข้างต้นทำให้ความคิดเรื่องอุดมการณ์แห่งรัฐสยาม สมเด็จพระมหาสมณเจ้า กรมพระยาวชิรญาณวโรรสทรงให้ความสำคัญกับ “ชาติ" “พุทธศาสนา" และ “พระมหากษัตริย์" ว่าเป็นสถาบันที่ทำให้รัฐสยามมีความเจริญก้าวหน้า และคงความเป็นรัฐไว้ได้ ซึ่งลักษณะทางอุดมการณ์ดังกล่าวได้ถูกส่งผ่านไปพร้อมกับการศึกษาสมัยใหม่ที่ใช้หลักสูตรการศึกษาแบบเดียวกันทั่วพระราชอาณาจักร เป็นผลทำให้อุดมการณ์แห่งรัฐที่ทรงมีส่วนร่วมสถาปนาได้แพร่ขยายไปสู่ราษฎรและกลายเป็นอุดมการณ์แห่งรัฐร่วมกันของสังคมในท้ายที่สุด

Other Abstract (Other language abstract of ETD)

The main objective of this thesis is the study of the role of Prince Patriarch Vajiranana-Varoros in the formation of modern Siam’s state idcology during the reigns of Rama V and Rama VI when Siam was being transformed into a modern state. During the period under study. Beside King Rama V and Prince Damrong, Prince Patriarch Vajiranana-Varoros was another Siamese elite whose role in the formation of modern Siam’s absolutist state ideology was most crucial. This was well evidenced in his writings and in his position as head of the Siamese sangha. Hence, the state ideology thus formed was essentially influenced by Buddhism and the progress, prosperity and integrity of Siam were essentially based on the existence of the three most significant institutions, namely “Nation, Buddhism and King." This Siamese absolutist state ideology was created and passed on through the public at large through the introduction of modern education system and the centralized and standardized curriculum imposed throughout the realm during this period.
