Abstract
The development of road transport has substantially advanced not only domestically but also regionally. Considered as a transportation hub for the South East Asia region, Thailand needs to develop its own infrastructure comparable to international standards in order to seamlessly link regional trade and transport. This article presents the status-quo of road transport in Thailand, focusing on highway networks, including domestic routes and those followed bilateral and multilateral agreements. In addition, the current conditions of road transport at the country's major borders and checkpoints are discussed. Realizing the important role of road infrastructure is crucial in long-range planning as it serves a fundamental ground in setting up rules and regulations for use in border crossing activities.(ปัจจุบันการขนส่งทางถนนได้พัฒนารุดหน้าไปมาก ทั้งในระดับประเทศและระดับภูมิภาค ประเทศไทยในฐานะศูนย์กลางการคมนาคมขนส่งของภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้จึงจำเป็นทีจะ ต้องพัฒนาระบบโครงสร้างพื้นฐานด้านการขนส่งให้เท่าเทียมกับมาตรฐานสากล เพื่อให้สามารถ เชื่อมโยงเส้นทางการค้าและขนส่งในภูมิภาคเข้าด้วยกัน บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อนำเสนอถึง สถานะปัจจุบันของการขนส่งทางถนนของประเทศไทย ให้ทราบถึงเส้นทางโครงข่ายต่างๆ ทั้งที่เป็น เส้นทางภายในประเทศ เส้นทางที่มีการตกลงทั้งในระดับทวิภาคีและพหุภาคี รวมไปถึงสถานการณ์ การขนส่ง ณ ด่านชายแดนที่สำคัญของประเทศ ที่จะเป็นจุดเชื่อมต่อการขนส่งทางถนนกับประเทศ เพื่อนบ้าน การตระหนักถึงโครงสร้างพื้นฐานทางถนนเป็นพื้นฐานที่สำคัญต่อการตัดสินใจวางแผน งานในอนาคต นอกจากนี้ยังเป็นข้อมูลที่จำเป็นประกอบกับการพิจารณากฎเกณฑ์ต่างๆ ที่ประเทศ ไทยจะนำมาใช้จัดทำแผนการดำเนินการตามความตกลงด้านการขนส่งทางถนนระหว่างประเทศไทย กับประเทศเพื่อนบ้าน)
