Abstract
There are numerous loanwords in Thai which come from different origins. The analysis to be presented in this paper covers only the words borrowed from English. The corpus consists of about 400 words generally used in evreyday language. The great majority of the words exhibit patterns of change, mostly in sound — from the sound patterns of English to Thai. The change occurs because the speaker using the words has the feeling that he is speaking Thai. The types of change found in the data can be classified as consonant, vowel and stressed syllable changes, addition of tones, word clipping, and meaning change.
