Abstract
As a native speaker of any language, one has both linguistic and communicative competence. That is one has internalized not only the dictionary and grammatical rules hut also all that is required in verbal behavior. Not only can one produce all the grammatical sentences but one can participate appropiately and effectively in a verbal communication. One can tell if a sentence is grammatical or if what is being said is a joke,an insult, something polite or something inappropiate and in certain situations one knows what one is expected to say.
