Abstract
งานวิจัย บทบาทของผีไทยในสังคมเมืองร่วมสมัยในนวนิยายชุด ผีมหานคร วัตถุประสงค์ในการวิจัยคือ เพื่อศึกษาศึกษาการปรับเปลี่ยนของผีไทยในคติความเชื่อพื้นบ้านและคติทางพระพุทธศาสนามาสู่สังคมเมืองร่วมสมัย ซึ่งในที่นี้คือกรุงเทพมหานคร และศึกษาสภาพของสังคมเมืองร่วมสมัย ตลอดจนประสบการณ์ สภาวะ อารมณ์ความรู้สึกของคนเมืองในนวนิยายออร์บันกอทิกชุด ผีมหานคร จำนวน 4 เล่ม อันประกอบไปด้วย กระสือ ของ RabbitRose กระหัง ของ ทวิวัฒน์ ปอป ของ ธุวัฒธรรพ์ และ เปรต ของ ปราปต์ จากการศึกษาพบว่า แม้สังคมจะมีการพัฒนามาเป็นสังคมเมืองร่วมสมัยด้วยอิทธิพลจากความเป็นสมัยใหม่ แต่ความเชื่อเรื่องผีที่เป็นความเชื่อดั้งเดิมก็ไม่เคยหายไปจากสังคมไทย ทั้งนี้เนื่องจากผีเป็นผลผลิตของสังคมแต่ละสมัย ดังนั้น ผีไทยทั้ง 4 ชนิดคือกระสือ กระหัง ปอป และ เปรตจึงมีการปรับเปลี่ยนเพื่อให้เข้ากับบริบทของสังคมเมืองร่วมสมัยโดยรับอิทธิพลจากการพัฒนาตามแบบสมัยใหม่และแนวคิดแบบสมัยใหม่ อาทิ ทุนนิยม บริโภคนิยม ปัจเจกนิยม ความเป็นเมือง เป็นต้น ทั้งนี้การปรับเปลี่ยนของผีแต่ละชนิดยังคงมีรากฐานมาจากคติความเชื่อพื้นบ้านและคติทางพระพุทธศาสนาจึงยังคงเห็นร่องรอยเดิมของผีแต่ละชนิด การปรากฏของผีไทยในสังคมเมืองร่วมสมัยเป็นการมาเผยให้เห็นอีกด้านหนึ่งของสังคมเมืองร่วมสมัยที่เต็มไปด้วยความผิดปกติ ความรุนแรง ความเสื่อมโทรมถดถอยที่ถูกปกปิดด้วยความเป็นปกติจากกฎเกณฑ์ของสังคมเมือง และยังนำเสนอให้เห็นประสบการณ์ อารมณ์ความรู้สึกของคนเมืองในการใช้ชีวิตภายใต้กฎเกณฑ์ของสังคมเมืองที่ไม่อาจถ่ายทอดด้วยคำพูดหรือวิธีการตามปกติได้จึงต้องอาศัยผีที่เป็นสิ่งเหนือธรรมชาติในการช่วยถ่ายทอดประสบการณ์ อารมณ์ความรู้สึกดังกล่าว
Other Abstract (Other language abstract of ETD)
This thesis aims to study the transformation of meanings of Thai ghosts from the ones found in folklore and Buddhism to the one found in contemporary urban society. It explores how ghosts and haunting in the modern city of Bangkok are related to urban experiences of people living the city. The selected texts are 4 novels of Phi Maha Nakhon series: Krasü written by RabbitRose, Krahang written by Tawiwat, Pop written by Thuwattan and Pret written by Prap. The study shows that traditional beliefs about ghosts still exist in Thai contemporary urban society since ghost is a product of each era. The four species of Thai ghosts in Phi Maha Nakhon series are defined as modern ghosts. Though the characteristics of four species of ghosts; namely, Krasü, Krahang, Pop and Pret are influenced by urban capitalism and consumerism, their emergence in the urban context still bears some traces of past beliefs. As modern ghosts, Krasü, Krahang, Pop and Petra expose abnormal, violent, and regressive side of contemporary urban society hidden under the facade of Bangkok as a modern progressive city.
