Abstract

วิทยานิพนธ์ เรื่อง “พระประวัติและพระกรณียกิจของสมเด็จพระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ กรมพระยาดำรงราชานุภาพ" เป็นการเสนอพระประวัติและงานของพระองค์ท่านตามหลักของการวิจัย การเสนอเรื่องเริ่มตั้งแต่ พ.ศ.2405 ซึ่งเป็นปีที่พระองค์ท่านทรงสมภพ จนถึง พ.ศ.2486 อันเป็นปีที่สิ้นพระชนม์นับว่าเป็นระยะเวลาที่ยาวนาน ประกอบกับพระองค์ท่านได้ทรงบำเพ็บพระกรณียกิจไว้นานัปการ วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องนี้จึงมีขอบเขตแห่งการศึกษาและการเสนอเรื่องอย่างกว้างขวาง และเพื่อที่จะแสดงให้เห็นถึงพระอัจฉริยภาพของพระองค์ในฐานะที่ทรงเป็นบุคคลสำคัญผู้หนึ่งของโลก ผู้เขียนจึงต้องกล่าวถึงพระประวัติและพระกรณียกิจของพระองค์ท่านอย่างละเอียดที่สุดเท่าที่จะทำได้ ทั้งพระกรณียกิจทางการทหาร การศึกษา การปกครอง การอักษรศาสตร์ ประวัติศาสตร์ และโบราณคดี ซึ่งล้วนเป็นพระกรณียกิจที่เด่นของพระองค์ท่าน ทั้งยังนำมาซึ่งความเจริญและคุณประโยชน์ให้แก่ประเทศชาติทั้งสิ้น ส่วนพระกรณียกิจทางด้านงานมหาดไทย ซึ่งแม้จะเป็นงานใหญ่ที่พระองค์ท่านได้ทรงปฎิบัติไว้มาก ได้มีผู้รู้ท่านอื่นเขียนไว้แล้วอย่างละเอียด ผู้เขียนวิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องนี้จึงขอกล่าวถึงงานของพระองค์ท่าน ฝ่ายมหาดไทยนี้แต่โดยสรุปเท่านั้น.

Other Abstract (Other language abstract of ETD)

On “Prince Damrong : His Life and Work" Prince Damrong Rajanubhab is known as a famouse statesman, educator, historian, scholar and writer of Thailand. In 1962 the Prince has been honoured by UNESCO as one of the world’s great men. In spite of his glorious life, there seems to be a few studies of his life and work as a whole. The purpose of this thesis is to present in detail, the waxing and waning of the role of this great man. The period starts from 1862, the year of his birth, and ends in 1943 when he died. During the span of 81 years, Prince Damrong strenuously worked for Thailand for nearly 57 years. Undoubtedly, this study covers various roles of the Prince, ranging from his role in education, administration, arts, history to archeology. It is therefore difficult to treat all these roles equally. For example, his role as an administrator, the writer does not cover in detail because several studies have already been made.
