Abstract

This article reveals lessons to be learned and important aspects of the Thai crisis of 1997 which were often misunderstood. It shows the country's weaknesses and vulnerability that led to the crisis and the aftermath impact that hed reached all quarters of the economy and society. Policy response after the crisis with the help of several institutions such as the IMF was keys to restoring economic confidence and recovery. The development process of the post-crisis on country's political development is also an integral part to understand the future of Thailand's economy and society beyond the recent turmoil, thus including themes like the sufficiency economy.
