Abstract

This article aims at examining names of Chaofain the Rattanakosinperiod by focusing on two aspects; namely 1) linguistic devices adopted in naming, and 2) thoughts, beliefs, and values reflected from the naming practice. The data was mainly collected from the book titled, "Rajsakulwongse" (the Royal Descent) (2011). Itis found that names of Chaofaconsist of two components: name and subname. This can be considered an exclusive attribute of the names of Chaofa. There are four types of linguistic devices mainly adopted in naming practice namely, lexical choice selection,making reference to other elites' names, using rhymes, and using auspicious characters. These linguistic devices were adopted for demonstrating the significance of Chaofa, the hierarchy among Chaofa, the relationship between each individual Chaofaand theking as well as his or her own family, and his or her gender. Also, some devices were employed for the sake of auspiciousness. Last, it is found that there are 5 underlying ideas in the naming practice involving Chaofanamely the royal prerogative, familybackground of Chaofa, the line of succession, gender-role values and the belief about auspiciousness.(บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษากลวิธีทางภาษาในการขนานพระนามและการเฉลิมพระนามเจ้าฟ้าในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ และศึกษาความคิด ความเชื่อ และค่านิยมในการขนานพระนามและการเฉลิมพระนามเจ้าฟ้าในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ ข้อมูลพระนามเจ้าฟ้าที่ใช้วิเคราะห์รวบรวมจากหนังสือ ราชสกุลวงศ์(2554) เป็นหลักจากการศึกษาพบว่า พระนามเจ้าฟ้ามีองค์ประกอบ 2ส่วน ได้แก่ พระนามและสร้อยพระนาม การมีองค์ประกอบทั้งสองส่วนนี้ถือเป็นลักษณะเฉพาะของพระนามเจ้าฟ้า กลวิธีทางภาษาในการขนานพระนามและการเฉลิมพระนามมี 4กลวิธีหลัก ได้แก่ การใช้คำศัพท์ การอ้างอิงพระนาม การส่งสัมผัสคล้องจอง และการใช้รูปอักษร กลวิธีเหล่านี้แสดงให้เห็นถึงความสำคัญของเจ้าฟ้า ลำดับชั้นของเจ้าฟ้า ความสัมพันธ์ของเจ้าฟ้ากับพระมหากษัตริย์และราชสกุล เพศสภาวะ และการอำนวยสิริมงคล สำหรับความคิด ความเชื่อ และค่านิยมที่พบในการขนานพระนามและการเฉลิมพระนามเจ้าฟ้าสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์มี 5ประการ ได้แก่ ความคิดเรื่องพระราชอำนาจของพระมหากษัตริย์ การให้ความสำคัญแก่พระชาติกำเนิดเจ้าฟ้า การสืบราชสันตติวงศ์ ค่านิยมเรื่องเพศสภาวะ และความเชื่อเรื่องสิริมงคล)
