Abstract
This paper is the excerpt from the Master's dissertation which aims to address whether globalisation leads to development or risk in Thailand by adapting mainly Ulrich Beck's theory of risk society with practical cases in Thailand. The practical case that is going to be discussed represents dimensions of environmental politics (Map Ta Phut). The case also contains relevant perceptions of imminent aspects of development as well as aspects of risk. With respect to risk, prominent elements of theory of risk society will be examined through the cases. The principal methodology is critical discourse analysis which can be seen through patterns of development as well as many elements of risk society.
