Abstract

There has been a rapid expansion of public administration education at the graduate level in the past twenty years both in Bangkok and in other provinces. This quantitative growth has led some to raise questions about the standard and the quality of public administration studies. In this research, the authors lay out their analyses and criticisms regarding the standard and the quality of public administration education in Thailand. The research methodologies are: documentary research and in-depth interviews. The populations and samples of the study are: PA teachers, Executives of the public administration education programs, and administrators in the Bureau of Standards and Education from the Office of the Higher Education Commission who are in charge of monitoring the standard and the quality of graduate studies in Thailand. The study concludes that the key factors that determine the standard and the quality of public administration education are: teachers, the learning and teaching processes, and the students. To improve the standard and the quality of PA graduate education in Thailand we need to instill proper values and professional ethics among stakeholders.
