Abstract

The following observations are presented with some reluetance, representing as they do the results of less than eight months of experience and study in Thailand. It has seemed desirable, hewever, even on the basis of this limited experience, to formulate some proposals for a social science research program at Chulalongkorn, with the confident expectation that colleagues with longer and more adequate experience in Thailand will make allowances for and corrections of the inevitable naivete of the farang. The proposals which follow must be regarded as tentative and incomplete, but hopefully they may provide the basis for discussions among the staff, from which a more adequate formulation may emerge.
