Abstract

The acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) is an extraordinary transmissible disease with high mortality rate. Its current epidemic is progressively increasing throughout the world. The disease has become a matter of great concern because of diagnostic and therapeutic problem. Researches about AIDS are widely carrying on to establish the real nature of the disease. Published articles concerning the information about AIDS are reviewed and summerized. This article also dicusses various oral lesions seen in AIDS patients and dentist's roles in the early detection and providing health education to the community for the better surveillance and epidemiologic control. in Thailand.(เอดสเป็นโรคติดต่อที่น่าสนใจเนื่องจากมีอัตราตายสูงและโรคยังคงเพิ่มอัตราการเกิดและการกระจายกว้างขวางขึ้น ในขณะที่นักวิจัยทั้งหลายก็พยายามสรุปหาข้อเท็จจริงเกี่ยวกับโรคนี้อยู่ตลอดเวลา บทความนี้ได้รวบรวมข้อมูลต่าง ๆ เกี่ยวกับโรคเอดสที่มีผู้รายงานไว้ รวมทั้งกล่าวถึงลักษณะของรอยโรคในช่องปากต่าง ๆ ที่พบในโรค เอดส เพื่อให้ทันตแพทย์ได้สังวรระวังและตระหนักถึงบทบาทในการเป็นผู้ร่วมวินิจฉัยรอยโรครวมทั้งให้ความรู้แก่ ประชาชนในเรื่องต่าง ๆ เกี่ยวกับโรคเอดสพร้อมทั้งแนะนําข้อปฏิบัติในการป้องกันและลดการแพร่ของโรคในหมู่ ประชากรไทยด้วย)
