Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of acemannan isolated from Aloe vera gel on the steady level of dentinsialophosphoprotein (DSPP) and dentin matrix protein 1 (DMP 1) mRNAs in primary human pulpal cells. Materials and methods Cells were treated with the designated concentrations of acemannan (0.25, 0.5 and 1 mg/ml) for 24 hours. The reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction assays were used to investigate the effects of acemannan on the steady level of DSPP and DMP 1 mRNAs. Results At 24 hours of incubation, acemannan (0.5 mg/ml) significantly enhanced the expressions of DSPP and DMP 1 mRNA levels up to 1.93 and 2.76 fold, respectively, as compared with the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion Acemannan at concentration 0.5 mg/ml stimulated both DSPP and DMP 1 mRNA expressions in human dental pulp cells.
