Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to survey the literature about silent periods elicited by tooth taps. Since tooth contact may initiate a silent period, the paper begins with a discussion of tooth contacts during mastication. Then the neuromuscular receptors are described, and the EMG silent period and the various ways to elicit silent periods.
