Abstract

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการหยุดบอกรับวารสารวิชาการภาษาต่างประเทศในหอสมุดกลาง มหาวิทยาลัยของรัฐ ในช่วงเวลา 5 ปีที่ผ่านมา (ปีงบประมาณ 2532-2536) ในด้านสาเหตุ จำนวน สาขาวิชา ราคา ตลอดจนวิธีการและเกณฑ์ที่ใช้ในการพิจารณาคัดเลือกวารสารที่จะหยุดบอกรับ เพื่อศึกษาแนวทางแก้ไขปัญหาแก่ผู้ใช้ภายหลังการหยุดบอกรับวารสาร ผลการวิจัยพบว่าระหว่างปีงบประมาณ 2532-2536 หอสมุดกลางมหาวิทยาลัยของรัฐ จำนวน 22 แห่ง หยุดบอกรับวารสารวิชาการภาษาต่างประเทศจำนวน 516 ชื่อ เป็นเงินทั้งสิ้น 3,279,777.81 บาท โดยมีสาเหตุจากวารสารมีราคาสูงขึ้น วิธีการที่ห้องสมุดส่วนใหญ่ใช้ในการคัดเลือกวารสารที่จะหยุดบอกรับ คือ การศึกษาการใช้วารสาร ผู้มีอำนาจในการตัดสินวารสารที่จะหยุดบอกรับ คือ บรรณารักษ์ และเกณฑ์ที่ใช้ในการตัดสินหยุดบอกรับวารสารเฉพาะชื่อมากที่สุด คือ หยุดบอกรับตามข้อเสนอแนะของผู้ใช้/ผู้บริหาร สาขาวิชาของวารสารที่หยุดบอกรับจำนวนมากที่สุดคือ สาขาวิชาวิทยาศาสตร์ จำนวน 112 ชื่อ (ร้อยละ 21.71) รองลงมา คือ สาขาวิชาเทคโนโลยีจำนวน 101 ชื่อ (ร้อยละ 19.57) ภายหลังการหยุดบอกรับวารสาร ห้องสมุดจำนวน 13 แห่ง ไม่มีปัญหาเกิดขึ้นกับผู้ใช้ส่วนห้องสมุดอีก 9 แห่งที่มีปัญหาเกิดขึ้นกับผู้ใช้ ได้ใช้แนวทางทั่วไปและแนวทางความร่วมมือระหว่างห้องสมุด ในการแก้ปัญหาให้กับผู้ใช้

Other Abstract (Other language abstract of ETD)

The purpose of this research is to study the cancellation of subscription to particular foreign language journals in the state university central libraries between the fiscal year of 1989-1993. This research will focus on cause, subject areas covered, price, selected analysis and methodologies employed and criteria used in deciding when to cancel journals, readers and follow up after cancellation. The result of this study show that, between the fiscal years of 1989-1993, twenty-two state university central libraries cancelled 516 journals amounting to 3,279,777.81 baht. The reasons why the majority of cancelled subscriptions were the rising prices. Most libraries selected journals to be cancelled by researching readers' needs and tastes. Librarians used the readers' suggestions as the criteria for the majority of cancellation of journal subscriptions. In the subject field of cancelled journals, 21.71 per cent or 112 were scientific and 19.57 per cent or 101 were technological journals. After journal cancellation, the readers of 13 libraries had no complaints. Another 9 libraries solved their readers' problems through library cooperation and providing general assistance in regard to readers' queries.
