Abstract
An approach was developed to estimate the trends of economic loss and construct an indicator in relation to the base year 1985 of road accidents, and analyze the related factors to the number of deaths from road accidents. This study consists of two main parts. The first part is the trends of economic loss and cost indicator of road accidents. The second part deals with the related factors to the number of deaths from road accidents in Thailand. The results of the study displays that the trends of economic loss and cost indicator in relation to the base year 1985 of road accidents increase every year. The positively related factors to the number of deaths from road accidents are alcohol consumption, economic growth of the services sector and the increasing number of bus registration. The negatively related factors are the road transportation budgets for direct and indirect road safety, and the speed limits legislation. These results have important policy implication.
