Abstract

ริเกอร์เรียกปรัชญาของตนว่า "ศาสตร์แห่งการตีความเกี่ยวกับตัวตน" เนื่องจากศาสตร์แห่งการตีความเป็นทางสู่ความเข้าใจอันหมายถึงความเข้าใจตัวตน คำถามที่เป็นตัวกำกับแนวทางการศึกษา ได้แก่ คำถามว่า ใครเป็นผู้พูด ใครกระทำ ใครเล่าเรื่องราวของตนเอง และใครรับผิดชอบคำตอบคือ ตัวตน ในกรอบทฤษฎีเรื่องเล่านั้น ริเกอร์เสนอมโนทัศน์อัตลักษณ์เชิงเรื่องเล่าเพื่อเป็นทางออกให้แก่ปัญหาปฏิทรรศน์อัตลักษณ์ของบุคคล สำหรับริเกอร์แล้ว ปัญหาปฏิทรรศน์อัตลักษณ์ของบุคคลเกิดจากการที่นักปรัชญาส่วนมากที่ถกเถียงปัญหาไม่ตระหนักถึงความแตกต่างระหว่างความหมายของอัตลักษณ์ 2 อย่าง อันได้แก่ อัตลักษณ์ในความหมายของความเป็นสิ่งเดียวกัน (sameness หรือ idem) และอัตลักษณ์ในความหมายของความเป็นตัวตน (selfhood หรือ ipse) ในการถกเถียงปัญหาดังกล่าว ริเกอร์แสดงให้เห็นถึงความสัมพันธ์แบบวิภาษระหว่างอัตลักษณ์ทั้ง 2 แบบในกรอบของการทำงานของโครงเรื่อง ซึ่งประกอบเป็นอัตลักษณ์เชิงเรื่องเล่า ไม่ต่างจากอัตลักษณ์ของตัวละครที่แสดงบทบาทในเรื่องแต่ง อัตลักษณ์เชิงเรื่องเล่ากลายมาเป็นอัตลักษณ์ของบุคคลผ่านการอ่าน อย่างไรก็ตาม ริเกอร์เองยอมรับว่าปัญหาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างเรื่องแต่งกับชีวิตนั้นเป็นปัญหาค้างคา ซึ่งจะพิจารณาในวิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้

Other Abstract (Other language abstract of ETD)

Ricoeur's philosophy is "a hermeneutics of the self", for hermeneutics is the route to understanding, understanding of the self. The question which is the guideline of the investigation of the self is 'who?' (Who speaks?; Who acts?; Who tells his or her story?; Who is responsible?). The answer is the self. In the field of narrative theory, Ricoeur claims that the concept of narrative identity is a solution to the problem of personal identity. According to Ricoeur, the paradox of personal identity is due to the fact that most philosophers who debate on the problem do not recognize the distinction between the two meanings of identity, namely identity in the sense of sameness (or idem) and identity in the sense of selfhood (or ipse). In addressing the problem, he shows the dialectical relationship between the two types of identity within the operation of the plot that constitutes narrative identity, just like identity of character who plays a role in fiction. Narrative identity becomes personal identity through the act of reading. Ricoeur himself, however, admits that the problem of the relationship between fiction and life is a 'thorny problem' which will be examined in this thesis.
