Abstract

This research examines the character “Moen” from Prapt’s detective novel “Nirat Mahannop” with reference to the concept of ecological conscience. Results show that Prapt deploys elements of fantasy to express Moen’s supernatural appearance and vocal power. This positions Moen as a voice on Thailand’s environmental problems from 2013 to 2015, relating to the oil spill that affected the country’s marine environment. Apart from that, Moen reflects powerful relationships between humans and the environment, capitalism and nature, in conjunction with the image of humans as an environmental threat.
