Abstract

Objectives The objectives of this research are to cross-culturally adapt the Professional Role Orientation Inventory for Thai dentists and to evaluate the equivalence between the original and Thai versions. Materials and methods Cross-cultural adaptation of the Professional Role Orientation Inventory was performed according to an international guideline including the following steps: forward translation, reconciliation, back-translation, expert panel review, and pilot testing with a group of 13 dentists. Results The cross-cultural adaptation procedure revealed no major problems. Findings of panel review suggested that the original and Thai versions were semantically, conceptually, and culturally equivalent. Results of pilot test demonstrated clarity and cultural relevancy of the Thai index. Conclusion The Professional Role Orientation Inventory - Thai version was successfully crossculturally adapted. Both Thai and original versions were considered equivalent. Further research is still needed to evaluate its reliability and validity before administration of the inventory among Thai dentists.
