Abstract

Oral Leukoplakia is a disease which may be found in oral cavity of anyone who has highly irritation, poor oral hygienes and some systemic factors involvement. This is a case report of a 62 year-old man, came in the Oral Diagnosis department, Chulalongkorn University, with white, cracked, fissured and thickening plaques on the buccal mucosa and alveolar ridge of 34-38 area. The diagnosis of oral leukoplakia was made from the intraoral examination and excisional biopsied specimen. The treatment with removal of chronic irritating factors, discontinuity of the smoking and chewing of betel nut, vitamin B. complex. The potential malignant nature and improvement of the lesions have been discussed.(Oral Leukoplakia อาจพบได้ในช่องปากของผู้ป่วยที่มีการระคายเคืองสูง และสุขภาพภายในช่องปากไม่ดี ตลอดจนการมี systemic factors บางอย่างเข้ามาเกี่ยวข้องด้วย ดังรายงานผู้ป่วยรายนี้ เป็นชายไทยมาที่ภาควิชาเวชศาสตร์ช่องปาก เนื่องจากมีฝ้าหยาบหนาขึ้นที่กระพุ้งแก้มด้านในขยายกว้างและมีอาการตึง ๆ จากการตรวจทางคลินิคและจุลพยาธิวิทยา พบว่าเป็นการหนาตัวของเซลล์ในชั้นแกรนนูลาร์ (granular) และชั้นเคอราติน (keratin) ซึ่งเป็นลักษณะที่พบใน leukoplakia และอาจมีโอกาสจะเปลี่ยนเป็นเนื้อร้าย (Cancer) ได้ในเวลาต่อมา)
