Abstract

The objective of this article is to describe the significance of strength in provisional crown and/or bridge restorations. It has been known that satisfied provisional restoration can maintain healthy periodontal tissue and normal function. The provisional restoration can be made from several kinds of material such as metal, acrylic resin and resin composite, which the selection is depended on several factors such as biting force, location, period of time, etc. In case of prolonged period of provisional restoration or be resisted heavy force, provisional restoration might need to be reinforced with polyethylene fiber or glass fiber to promote mechanical strength and fractural toughness to prevent breaking of the restoration.(วัตถุประสงค์ของบทความนี้เพื่ออธิบายถึงความสําคัญของความแข็งแรงของครอบและสะพานฟันชั่วคราว ซึ่งเป็นที่ทราบกันว่าครอบฟันและสะพานฟันที่ดีสามารถรักษาอวัยวะปริทันต์ให้อยู่ในสภาพดี และใช้บดเคี้ยวได้ วัสดุที่ใช้ทํามีหลายชนิดได้แก่ โลหะ พลาสติก และคอมโพสิตเรซิน ซึ่งการเลือกใช้ก็ขึ้นอยู่กับหลายปัจจัย ได้แก่ การใช้งาน ระยะเวลาในการใส่ แรงที่กัด ตําแหน่งของครอบและสะพานฟัน ช่วงเวลาในการใช้งาน ฯลฯ ในกรณีที่จําเป็นต้องใช้งานในระยะเวลาที่ยาวนาน หรือ ต้องรับแรงที่มากกว่าปกติ ครอบและสะพานฟันนั้นจําเป็นต้องเสริมความแข็งแรงแก่วัสดุที่ใช้ทําด้วยเส้นใยโพลีเอทิลีนหรือเส้นใยแก้ว เพื่อเพิ่มความแข็งแรงและต้านการแตกหักจะช่วยป้องกันไม่ให้เกิดความล้มเหลวของครอบและสะพานฟันชั่วคราว)
