Abstract
The important step in oral Rehabilitation for dental prosthesis is to measure the distance between maxilla and mandible. The measurement can be done in a number of ways, distance measurement from lateral cephalometric radiograph, electrical muscle stimulator, phonetic and sound, the facial soft tissue contour, swallowing and the consideration of the remaining teeth in order to evaluate whether or not the proper relationship between the maxilla and the mandible has been loss. It should be kept in mind that the error regarding the distance finding between the maxilla and the mandible when making dental prosthesis could be harmful to the patients. Among the undesirable results would be for example. muscle spasm, pain of muscle mastication, toothache and pain in the temperomaudibular joint etc.(ในการปรับสภาพช่องปากเพื่อการทําฟันปลอม ขั้นตอนที่จัดว่ามีความสําคัญ คือ การหาระยะระหว่างขากรรไกรบนล่าง ซึ่งมีหลายวิธี ได้แก่ การวัดระยะ การถ่ายภาพรังสีกะโหลกศีรษะด้านข้าง การตรวจคลื่นกล้ามเนื้อการพูดและใช้เสียง การดูลักษณะรูปหน้า การกลืน ตลอดจนสภาพพื้นที่เหลือในช่องปากซึ่งจะช่วยประกอบการประเมินว่า มีการสูญเสียความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างขากรรไกรบนล่างหรือไม่ เพราะการหาระยะระหว่างขากรรไกรบนล่างที่ผิดพลาด เมื่อสร้างฟันปลอมจะเกิดผลเสียต่อผู้ป่วย เช่น การเกร็งตัวและปวดกล้ามเนื้อบดเคี้ยว ปวดฟัน และข้อต่อขากรรไกรเป็นต้น)
