Abstract

Twenty eight dental students (aged 17-20 years) with at least 24 teeth and good oral health were taught to brush twice a day with modified Bass technique. Each of 4 brand toothbrushes (Research-D, Premium, GUM #411 and Dental-C) was used for 4 weeks. The plaque index, gingival lesions caused by bristle ends and collisions of brush were recorded before and after brushing each week for 4 months then analysed with Kruskal-Wallis 1 way ANOVA at the significant level of 0.10. At the end of the study each subject answered a questionaire on opinion derived from the use of all brushes. The results indicated that Premium (the lowest price) ranked highest in efficacy of plaque removal while there was no difference in gingival lesions caused by bristle ends of 4 toothbrushes, the highest number of collided lesions was found with the use of GUM #411. The subjects rated Research-D as the most handy, softest bristle and least in provoking pain from bristle. The best access brush was Premium and the brushes least colliding were Premium and GUM #411.(นิสิตทันตแพทย์อายุ 17-20 ปี จํานวน 28 คน มีฟันอย่างน้อย 24 ซี่ และสุขภาพช่องปากสมบูรณ์ ได้รับการสอนวิธีแปรงฟันแบบมอดิฟายด์แบส (modified Bass) วันละ 2 ครั้ง แต่ละคนจะใช้แปรงสีฟัน 4 ชนิด (Research-D, Premium, GUM #411, Dental-C) แต่ละชนิดเป็นเวลา 4 สัปดาห์ ผู้วิจัยวัดดัชนีคราบจุลินทรีย์ ปริมาณแผลที่ผิวเหงือกจากปลายขนแปรง และแผลจากการกระแทกก่อนและหลังการแปรงทุกสัปดาห์ และทําการวิเคราะห์โดยวิธี Kruskal-Wallis I way ANOVA ที่ระดับนัยสําคัญ 0.10 หลังเสร็จสิ้นการแปรง 4 เดือน กลุ่มทดลองตอบแบบสอบถามเกี่ยวกับความคิดเห็นจากการใช้แปรงทั้ง 4 ชนิด ผลของการศึกษาพบว่าแปรงสีฟัน Premium ซึ่งมีราคาต่ำสุด มีประสิทธิภาพในการกําจัดคราบจุลินทรีย์สูงสุด ในขณะที่ไม่มีความแตกต่างของปริมาณแผลที่เกิดจากปลายขนแปรง 4 ชนิด และแผลจากการกระแทกของหัวแปรงพบมากที่สุดจาก GUM #411 กลุ่มทดลองมีความคิดเห็นว่าแปรงสีฟันที่รู้สึกว่าใช้ถนัดมือดีที่สุด ขนแปรงนุ่มที่สุด และไม่รู้สึกเจ็บเหงือกจากขนแปรงคือ Research-D แปรงที่รู้สึกว่าเข้าได้ทั่วถึงดีที่สุดคือ Premium และแปรงที่รู้สึกว่าไม่กระแทกเหงือกและกระพุ้งแก้มคือ Premium และ GUM #411)
