Abstract

The inhibition of Streptococcus mutans in acid production by 6 antiseptic lozenges containing sugar. The drug was incubated with Streptococcus mutans, then measured the pH at 1, 3, 6 and 24 hours. Comparing the 2 control groups (without sugar and with sugar) and the experimental groups (drug alone and drug adding sugar). The difference of pH occurred mostly in 3 hours which the control groups had lower pH than the experimental groups except the drug that contained amyl meta cresol had reverse picture. The experimental groups showed lower pH than the control groups. The reason might be that amyl metal cresol in the lozenge dose not inhibit Streptoccus mutans and has high sugar.(ในการทดลองเพื่อศึกษาการยับยั้งการเกิดกรดของสเทรปโทคอกคัส มิวแทนส์กับน้ำตาลที่เป็นส่วน ประกอบของยาอม 6 ชนิด ที่มียาระงับเชื้อ โดยนํายาอมมาเพาะกับเชื้อสเตรปโทคอกคัส มิวแทนส์ แล้ววัด pH ในชั่วโมงที่ 1, 3, 6 และ 24 ตามลําดับ เปรียบเทียบระหว่างกลุ่มควบคุมที่มีแบคทีเรียอย่างเดียวและกลุ่มควบคุมที่มีน้ำตาลกับกลุ่มทดลองที่มียาอมอย่างเดียว และกลุ่มทดลองที่มียาอมและน้ำตาล พบว่ามี pH ลดลง ชัดเจนในชั่วโมงที่ 3 โดยที่กลุ่มควบคุมจะมี pH ต่ำกว่ากลุ่มทดลอง นอกจากพวกที่มียาระงับเชื้อเป็น amyl meta cresol ซึ่งกลุ่มทดลองมี pH ต่ำกว่ากลุ่มควบคุม ซึ่งอาจเป็นเพราะเหตุ 2 ประการ คือ ยาตัวนั้นไม่ระงับ เชื้อสเตรปโทคอกคัส มิวแทนส์ และยานั้นมีปริมาณน้ำตาลสูงกว่าอย่างอื่นที่นํามาทดลอง)
