Abstract

Various types of pins become popular retentive devices for extensive amalgam restorations but several disadvantages are associated with their uses. Alternative methods of auxillary retention have been suggested. Studies indicated that some of them provide as much retention and resistance for restorations as do retentive pins. This acticle reviews the proper use of retentive pins and describes other substitutional methods such as Amalgapin, retentive slot, modified cavity preparation utilizing available tooth structure, including the use of dentin bonding agents. These methods can be used as substitutional retentions to retentive pins in extensive amalgam restorations.(ในการบูรณะฟันที่มีการสูญเสียเนื้อฟันไปมากด้วยอมัลกัม โดยใช้รีเทนทีฟฟินช่วยเพิ่มรีเทนชัน มักจะเกิดการแตกหักของเนื้อฟันส่วนที่เหลือ และมีข้อควรระวังในการทําหลายประการ จึงมีความพยายามหารีเทนชันอื่น เพื่อทดแทน ได้แก่ อมัลกาพิน รีเทนทีฟ สลอต และการปรับรูปแบบการเตรียมแควิตี รวมทั้งการใช้เดนทีน บอนคิง เอเจนต์ รีเทนชันในรูปแบบต่าง ๆ นี้สามารถใช้ร่วมกันได้เพื่อให้การบูรณะฟันด้วยอมัลกัมเกิดประสิทธิภาพสูงสุด)
