Abstract

Thirteen types of toothbrushes were classified into 4 groups according to the percentage of roundedness and diameter size of bristles. Twentyfive bristles from each of ten, thirteen brand toothbrushes, roundomly selected were evaluated for roundedness under stereomicroscope at 40x magnification by two investigators, while 30 bristles randomly selected from 6 tooth- brushes of each brand were filmed under scanning electron microscope at 35x magnification and measured for sizes of diameters. The findings were at α = 0.05 confident level, the proportion of roundedness ranged from Oral-B, the highest (0.226) to the lowest, Colgate & Bulter Gum (0.004). The credibility between the two investigators was 93.57% ( α = 0.05) and the sizes of diameter for all types were rated as "soft", ranged from the longest, Colgate and Dental-C (0.0043 inch) to the shortest, Salz (0.0036 inch). With the devision of roundedness proportions and diameter sizes into 3 levels (low moderate high), all the toothbrushes could be classified into 4 groups. Group I, being the most probably suitable for function consists of Oral-B; group II: Colgate, Premium, Arrow, Dental C, Aim, Butler Gum; group III: Jordan; group IV: Research-D, Salz. At the borderline of group 2 and 3: Listerine Plus, Biosafety; group 3 and 4: Sensodyne.(วัตถุประสงค์ของการศึกษานี้เพื่อจําแนกกลุ่มแปรงสีฟันวัยรุ่นและผู้ใหญ่ของแปรง 13 ชนิดที่จําหน่าย ในประเทศไทย โดยประเมินความมนกลมของแปรงชนิดละ 10 อัน แต่ละอันสุ่มขนแปรงมา 30 เส้น ด้วยกล้องจุลทรรศน์สเตอริโอที่กําลังขยาย 40 เท่าโดยผู้วิจัย 2 คน และวัดขนาดเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลางโดยสุ่มขนแปรง 25 เส้น จากแปรงแต่ละอันชนิดละ 10 อันด้วยภาพถ่ายจากกล้องจุลทรรศน์อิเล็กตรอนชนิดส่องกราดที่กําลังขยาย 35 เท่า พบว่าที่ระดับความเชื่อมั่น α = 0.05 แปรงสีฟัน Oral-B มีค่าสัดส่วนความมันกลมสูงสุด (0.226) และ แปรงสีฟัน Colgate และ Butler Gum มีค่าสัดส่วนความมันกลมต่ำสุด (0.004) ขนาดเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลางของแปรงสีฟันทั้งหมดจัดเป็นชนิดอ่อน (Soft) โดยมีค่าสูงสุดคือ Colgate และ Dental-C (0.0043) ไปจนถึงค่าต่ำสุดคือ Salz (0.0036") จากการแบ่งระดับขนาดเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลางและค่าสัดส่วนความมันกลมเป็น 3 ระดับ สามารถจําแนกแปรงสีฟันได้เป็น 4 กลุ่ม โดยเรียงลําดับกลุ่ม 1 ซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มที่น่าจะเหมาะสมที่สุดใน การนําไปใช้ คือ Oral-B, กลุ่ม 2 : Colgate, Premium, Arrow, Dental-C, Aim, Butler Gum, กลุ่ม 3 : Jordan, กลุ่ม 4 : Research-D, Salz และกลุ่มที่ก้ํากึ่งระหว่างกลุ่ม 2 และ 3 ได้แก่ Listerine Plus, Biosafety และกลุ่มที่ก้้ำกึ่งระหว่างกลุ่ม 3 และ 4 ได้แก่ Sensodyne)
