Abstract

The knowledge and attitude about periodontal disease of 100 regularly attending patients each in general dental practices of government and private hospitals in Bangkok were examined. In both groups, the patients had correct information concerning the importance in having healthy teeth and gum, frequently visit dentist and proper force used in brushing, but had incorrect information about plaque and etiology of periodontal disease. Private hospital group was more knowledgeable than government hospital group (p < 0.05). The difference in patient knowledge and attitude may be influenced by age, sex, occupation and incomes. The results indicate that additional education in periodontal disease is still needed during dental practice.(งานวิจัยนี้เป็นการศึกษาถึงความรู้และทัศนคติเกี่ยวกับโรคปริทันต์ของผู้ป่วยที่มารับบริการในแผนกทันตกรรมของโรงพยาบาลของรัฐบาล และโรงพยาบาลเอกชน ในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร จํานวนกลุ่มละ 100 คน ผู้ป่วยทั้งสองกลุ่มมีความรู้ที่ถูกต้องในประเด็นที่ว่า สุขภาพเหงือกและฟันเป็นสิ่งสําคัญ ควรไปพบทันตแพทย์เป็นประจํา และการใช้แรงที่เหมาะสมในการแปรงฟัน แต่พบว่ามีความรู้เกี่ยวกับแผ่นคราบจุลินทรีย์ หรือสาเหตุของการเกิดโรคปริทันต์น้อยมาก อย่างไรก็ตาม ผู้ป่วยกลุ่มโรงพยาบาลเอกชนจะมีความรู้และทัศนคติที่ถูกต้องมากกว่าผู้ป่วยกลุ่มโรงพยาบาลรัฐบาล (P < 0.05) ซึ่งความแตกต่างของระดับความรู้และทัศนคติดังกล่าวอาจเป็นผลมากจาก อายุ เพศ อาชีพ และรายได้ของผู้ป่วย จากผลการวิจัยครั้งนี้แสดงให้เห็นว่า ยังคงมีความจําเป็นต้องให้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับโรคปริทันต์แก่ผู้ป่วยให้มากขึ้นในขณะบําบัดรักษาทางทันตกรรม)
